Luca Giaccone was born in Cuneo, Italy, in 1980. He received the Laurea degree in Electrical Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy, in 2005. In 2006, he became Research Assistant on the European project called POLYCITY. Within the EU project he worked on the subject of modeling and optimization of complex energy networks. From 2007 to 2009, he was pursuing the Ph.D. degree, working in several fields of electrotechnics. The activities started in the POLYCITY project have been extended in another EU project called HEGEL. Moreover, he worked on several other areas of the electrical engineering. During the Ph.D. his main activity was focused on the mitigation of magnetic fields produced by power lines. In 2010 he received the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino. In the Ph.D. thesis Dr. Giaccone developed a new concept for the magnetic field mitigation of underground power lines called High Magnetic Coupling Passive Loop (HMCPL). The idea was patented at international level and, successively, published on some international journals. In 2010 and 2011 he carried out, by means of a research grant and a regional scholarship respectively, a project on the material for magnetic field mitigation employed in underground installation. The main activities were focused on finding a good compromise between shielding performances by limiting the corrosion of the material. From 2006 to 2011, beside the research activities, he was teacher assistant of basic electrotechnics and electromagnetism courses. Moreover, he tutored several degree theses focused on his fields of interest. In November 2011 he won a competition for a permanent position in the Dipartimento Energia of the Politecnico di Torino where he is currently working as Assistant Professor. His areas of expertise are: optimization and modeling of complex energy systems, computation of electromagnetic and thermal fields, energy scav- enging, magnetic field mitigation, EMF dosimetry, compliance of LF pulsed magnetic field sources. He is member of the IEEE since 2014 and he has been elevated to senior member in February 2015. Since November 2015 he is member of the IEEE International Committee on Electromagnetic Safety - Technical Committee 95 - Subcommittee 6 that works in the field of EMF Dosimetry Modeling.
