Abstract

Although drivers do not care about tire management, it is crucial in terms of vehicle safety. Incorrect tire inflation pressure also increases fuel consumption and tire wear. A methodology is proposed to calculate, given a specific vehicle loading condition, the inflation pressure of the tires which allows tires to work properly, keeping in every condition an optimal vehicle response during cornering.

Abstract

The behavior of a vehicle radically changes according to its current mass, given by the sum of the curb weight and carried load, and to its distribution among the various axles or wheels. The proposed method allows to calculate the actual vehicle mass and its distribution among wheels in realtime while the vehicle is running. This quantities can then be used to adapt the vehicle to the current working condition.
