Marco Filippi, M.Sc in mechanical engineering, was senior professor until November 2015 at Politecnico di Torino, where he was also full professor until November 2014, Vice-Rector (2005-2012), member of the Academic Senate (2001-2005), Deputy Dean of the First Faculty of Architecture (2000-2005) and Director of the Interdepartmental Centre for Didactic Services at the Faculty of Architecture (1997-1999). He led the committee which worked out the academic strategic plan in 2007 and he was responsible for the project Energy Center in cooperation with the City of Turin, the Piedmont Region and the Compagnia di San Paolo. In 1996 he became honorary member of the Associazione Italiana Condizionamento dellAria Riscaldamento Refrigerazione (AiCARR). In 2014 he was elected member of the Accademia delle Scienze in Turin. In 2015 he achieved the Award of the Federation of European Heating Ventilation and Air conditioning Associations (REHVA) "in recognition of his outstanding achievements in science and for his contribution to improve energy efficiency and the indoor environment of buildings. He was member of the scientific committees of the Superior Institute for Territorial Systems and Innovation SiTI ( He was member of the board of the Foundation Centro Conservazione e Restauro dei Beni Culturali "La Venaria Reale" (CCR); the CCR founded in 2005 by the Ministry of Culture, Regione Piemonte, University of Turin, the Foundation 1563 for Arts and Culture and the Foundation CRT as an institute for advanced training and research in the field of conservation and restoration of cultural heritage. Politecnico of Turin, the city of Turin and the city of Venaria Reale have joined the first five founding members.. He is member of the scientific committee of the Green Building Council Italia ( In the Department of Energy at Politecnico di Torino he founded and led the research group TEBE ( TEBE is generally working on energy efficient buildings, indoor environmental engineering, lighting and acoustics and in this context he works on green building, technological innovation in building design and energy management in existing buildings. At the end of the eighties he founded the Laboratory for Environmental System Analysis and Modelling (LAMSA). In 2000 he founded the Centre for Research and Experimentation in Natural and Artificial Lighting (CERSIL) at Environment Park, a scientific and technological park in Torino; in the centre the first Italian artificial sky is operating. In 2011 he founded the Indoor Environment and Energy Management (IEEM) research centre in Politecnico di Torino, financed by Telecom Italy. In Politecnico di Torino he taught and at present teaches building physics and building services. He founded the PhD course Technological Innovation in Built Environment of which he was director of the course until 2013. He is author and co-author of more than 430 scientific papers, didactic papers, chapters of books and editorials. He was co-editor of the books Impianti di climatizzazione per ledilizia: dal progetto al collaudo (HVAC installations in buildings: from design to commissioning), printed by Masson in 1997 and fully diffused in the Italian community of HVAC designers, Agenzia Torino 2006_Progetti and Agenzia Torino 2006_Cantieri e Opere, printed in 2004 and 2006 by Electa-Mondadori on the occasion of the 20th Winter Olympic Games, Certificazione energetica e verifica ambientale degli edifici (Energy certification and environmental assessment in buildings) and La certificazione energetica per ledilizia sostenibile (Energy certification for the sustainable building), printed in 2007 and 2014 by Flaccovio, Indoor Climate Quality Assessment, printed by REHVA in 2011, Total energy use in buildings. Analysis and evaluation methods, printed by Institute for Building Environment and Energy Conservation in 2013, and Energy efficiency in historic buildings, printed by Delfino in 2014. He is director of the book collection on Energy and Environment edited by CELID (Torino). From 1993 to 1995 he was president of the Associazione Italiana Condizionamento dellAria Riscaldamento Refrigerazione (AICARR), the Italian society of the engineers involved with air conditioning, heating and refrigeration and president of the national standard committee for air conditioning and refrigeration. At present he is member of the American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). In the past he worked as HVAC designer. At present he operates as consulting engineer as regards efficient use of energy, indoor environment engineering and technologies for preservation of architectural and artistic heritage. In this context he is charged by public and private bodies as supervisor of building design and construction processes and energy management contracts. January, 2016
